# Aftermarket or genuine: which construction machine part should you choose?

Published: 2026-10-27

> A genuine part is the machine manufacturer’s own part. An aftermarket part is made by another company to the same OEM number. The right choice depends on the part, the age of the machine and its warranty status.

A genuine part is one sold by the machine manufacturer under its own brand and packaging. An aftermarket part is made by another company to the OEM number and dimensions of the original. We are a company that makes aftermarket parts ourselves. Even so, we don’t recommend aftermarket in every case.

## On a machine still under warranty

If the machine is still under the manufacturer’s warranty, read the warranty terms first. Some manufacturers require servicing and repairs during the warranty period to be done at an authorised dealer with their own parts. In that case, using genuine parts avoids any warranty dispute from the start.

## Where aftermarket makes sense

On machines that are out of warranty and have done a few thousand hours, aftermarket parts are mostly used for the parts that wear most: pins, bushes, covers, link arms and kingpins. These parts have known dimensions. Made to the OEM number, they fit the machine just like the original.

Genuine parts sometimes take weeks to arrive. On older models, the manufacturer may no longer sell some parts at all. In these situations an aftermarket part gets the machine working again sooner.

## What to check when buying aftermarket

- OEM number: The seller should state clearly which OEM number the part replaces. Don’t buy a part with no known number just because someone says “it’ll fit”.

- Dimensions: Pin diameter, length, number of holes and the distance between holes should be the same as the old part. If in doubt, send the measurements of the old part.

- Manufacturer: Ask who made the part and where. If a problem comes up with a part of unknown origin, it is hard to find anyone to answer for it.

- Surface and casting: There should be no porosity, cracks or flash in the casting. If you can see a casting defect, the part should not be fitted.

## Warranty and returns

The warranty on an aftermarket part is the one given by the company that makes or sells it. Before buying, ask how long the warranty is and what happens if the wrong part arrives.

## How it works with us

We make the covers, axle parts, linkage parts and pins at our factory in Konya. On every product page we list the part’s OEM number, its cross-reference numbers and the machines it fits. The [JCB pump cover 450/12401](/en/products/jcb-pump-cover-10-holes) page, for example, lists the numbers 450/10216, 458/M4230 and 334/Y3895 and the twenty JCB models the part fits. When you send us your machine model and the part number, our technical team checks the fit.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Does an aftermarket part void the machine’s warranty?

That depends on the machine manufacturer’s warranty terms. On a machine still under warranty, don’t fit an aftermarket part without reading the terms. On a machine whose warranty has ended, there is no such issue.

### Are aftermarket parts cheaper than genuine ones?

Usually they are, but the difference varies a lot from part to part. When comparing prices, also take into account the waiting time and who made the part.

### How can I tell that your part has the same dimensions as the original?

We make our parts to the dimensions of the OEM number and state on the product page which numbers they correspond to. Send us the measurements or a photo of your old part and we will check together before you order.
